InHo is an absolute intense mess. Like the level of being willing to get himself shot just to keep making GiHun believe they’re soulmates who’ve found each other in the middle of death games? Joining trials where it’s not entirely likely he’ll make it out alive just so he can talk to the guy he’s been obsessed with for years? Risking the stability of the games themselves just to get close enough to stare at GiHun so intensely that everyone around feels uncomfortable?

I don’t know if this is the most romantic plot I’ve ever heard or just another standard unresolved homosexual tension drama, but the fact that this middle-aged man with severe emotional issues can’t stop obsessing over some idealistic fool for three years—and can’t handle his emotions in any way other than risking his own life to break the humanity of his object of desire—has been my Roman Empire for days and I just can’t escape it.

"I’ll explain later," said Kant, something Babe knew to translate by I’ll wait for you to forget about it. He didn’t see how he would, this time. "For now, just tell me you understood."

"I understood."

"So if Bison asks if you’re alright?"

"I say I managed to hide, and you found me before the bullies did."

"Good. Now tell it to me in different words."

"You know this isn’t my first lie, right? You don’t have to coach me through it."

"Humor me."

"I outran them and hid before you arrived."

"Good." Kant repeated. He wasn’t slowing down and it put Babe on edge: his brother never rushed, or more accurately never let it show when he did. Everything had been off since he’d asked for that phone call.

"What if I don’t play along?" That stopped Kant. When he turned, Babe almost took a step back. "I was only jo–"

"I’m sorry," Kant interrupted, "and it’s the last time I ask you something like this. But promise me you’ll lie."

"Yeah, okay. I’m not, like, allergic or any–"

"Promise me, Babe."

"I promise. You’ll explain later?"

"Sure. Come on, he must be there already."

The night got even weirder after that.

"Here’s what I still don’t get, though" said Babe. "You like him."

Kant sighed. "This ain’t really about me." A serious contender for Most Kant Answer Ever, though Babe hadn’t heard it in a while.

He set the dry plate on top of the others. "I think he likes you too."

"Believe it or not" – Kant was scrubbing a little too energetically. Babe had painted that glass when he was eight and, ugly as it was, his brother always washed it with the utmost care – "it ain’t really about him either."

That was a new one. Babe took the glass from Kant’s hand and rinsed it himself. "Who is it about, then?" Wet spoons were handed out to him without so much as a look. He hadn't even finished drying the glass. "Is this when you tell me that whatever you’re doing, you’re doing it for us?"

"You told me to stop saying that."

Babe remembered that argument. Of course, what he’d actually wanted was for his brother to stop thinking that way, but he’d thought that had been clear. Maybe it had been. He should still have been clearer.

"Are we not going to talk about the gun at all?"

"He’s had a rough life, you know." Kant replied in his worst parent-teacher meeting voice. "He just needs to unlearn a few things."

Babe gave up.

Bison again? Babe texted back. He might not get an answer, but that wasn’t a reason not to try.

"Sorry." Babe blinked against the flood of light. "Gave my bed to Knot. I didn’t think you’d come home tonight." Kant’s sheets didn’t smell like him – he had changed them this morning – but there was an undeniable comfort to sleeping in his room. And it was miles better than laying awake next to Knot, wondering what amount of incidental contact you could get away with before you fell into creep territory. "You had a good time?"

"Hm."

Kant hadn’t moved, fingers still on the lightswitch. He was, technically, looking at Babe. It didn’t feel like he was looking at anything at all.

Babe got up, feet against the cool floor. "Kant?" But he couldn’t ask are you okay: Kant always replied yes. "Is Bison alright?"

When he got pulled into a hug, Babe didn’t resist. He had so many questions, the list ever growing, yet with his brother clinging to him like this – like he hadn’t done in years, like it would be the last time, like a drowning man struggling to stay afloat – he knew he wouldn’t voice any of them.

He closed his eyes, inhaled, and clung back.

Okay, so if we zoom in only on the girlies. Maria Theresa of course would be the first and foremost because she's a fucking icon, hands down. One of the most important monarchs in Austrian, Hungarian, Czech etc. and of course SLOVAK history. She ruled the Habsburg monarchy for 40 years and did so many important things that I can't even give you a brief summary.

Stephanie of Belgium was a FASCINATING personality, I've only read an abridged version of her memoirs, but seeing things from her perspective was a Journey. Of course, my true blorbo is her first husband, but honestly in terms of sympathies, I feel more for her than for him. #justiceforstephanie Plus the fact that she made a better life for herself, found true love and junk after his death warms my heart.

Anne of Austria. An absolute icon who facilitated the height of absolutism (a mixed blessing to be sure, but nonetheless) by keeping France from falling apart before Louis XIV. ever came to power. Also had just... The most fascinating life, married at 13 to a notorious prude, their marriage was notoriously volatile, she participated in a bajilion conspiracies against him, then they made up for the last time and had two kids when they were in their 40s, soon thereafter he died and she had to keep France from falling apart, all the while flirting with a sexy cardinal. What can I say, I read the Slovak translation of Herrinnen des Louvre at 15 and it permanently altered my brain chemistry.

Margeurite "Margot" de Valois. Another absolutely fascinating life story of a clever woman navigating politics, plus was cancelled during her lifetime for just the dumbest reasons. If anything, her many love affairs and constant switching of sides make her even more iconic!

Fulvia, married to both Clodius Pulcher and Marcus Antonius and like a good Roman wife did her best to match their freak. One of the prime dramatis personae of the transition between Roman republic and empire and, frankly, the most underrated one. Also other Roman women, like Agrippina the Younger and of course the great Theodora of the Nika rebellion and regency for Justinian I. during his illness fame, @hurremsultanns will tell you why she's awesome.

And OF COURSE. Of course. The 18th century Romanov empresses. Were they correct? Mostly no. Were they likeable? With the exception of Catherine the Great, also mostly no (no, really, you WOULD want to hang out with her, if for no other reason than because you might run into Ekaterina Vorontsova-Dashkova). But were they iconic? Yes, absolutely, 100%.

But for real tho... In my opinion, the real test of your blorbos isn't even their choice, it's your ability to put them in a historical context. Like if you know not only tidbits from their life, but also to assess how they fit into or deviate from the norms of their era and how important they are in a broader context, then you're pretty much golden no matter what basic bitch you choose.

History is not just Marie Antoinette, it's more

I don't know about you, but there is a certain community of people in history that is starting to annoy me… I call them the "history girls" I don't know if you see but they are the girls who are only interested in Marie Antoinette, Anne Boleyn, Empress Sissi (and sometimes the Romanov sisters) it disappoints me because I have the impression that they only know that about history, what is too bad is that these historical figures are interesting I'm not saying the opposite but everyone knows them, you tell a French person to name a historical figure he necessarily says Marie Antoinette and the same for the others, history is not that, history is thousands of characters who have marked life, I prefer characters that no one knows than characters about whom there are already a slew of books and films, I prefer to talk to people whose historical figure they don't know at all, it's much more interesting and it allows better know the history precisely…personally my favorite historical figure is Marshal Michel Ney who knows him apart from those who are interested in the Napoleonic era and specialists? no one…so who are your favorite historical figures that no one knows and who are more interesting than Marie Antoinette, Anne Boleyn and Empress Sissi?

regulus only has tattoos or piercings in places they don't show. growing up with parents like his, it just comes with the job. his friends keep reminding him he's out of there for good, that he doesn't need to hide them anymore, but strangely, regulus likes the mystery of it all. people's faces when they find out about the septum barty did in 6th year or the pure shock when he takes his shirt off and bares the full back, it's always entertaining.

it's of course fun with partners too, most of the time they don't expect it. james is no different. although regulus can admit he thought this moment would've come in a completely different setting. they haven't done much past kissing, not for lack of trying on regulus part, but sneaking around the castle has proven to be actually difficult when magic is such a time consuming art. he also supposes james is waiting, he'd said he wanted to take things slowly and regulus is not about to oppose to that, so they both wait. until now, apparently.

evan and pandora are about halfway through fusing about him and how to take care of his latest arm piece when james comes in looking for him. regulus —who had his back to the door— turns and goes to greet his boyfriend but just finds him staring at him rooted in place. barty laughs, picking up his things and gesturing for the other pair to go on a walk with me. regulus shifts, hyperconscious of the way his arm looks, raw and red and slightly swollen from the fresh ink. he wraps his arms around himself protectively, suddenly aware of the fact that he hasn't really talked about this with james before. so um, you like? brown eyes blink rapidly, coming up from where they'd widened on his belly button jewelry.

his boyfriend drops whatever was held in his hands, scoffs, dives forward and— oh, james likes.
